Members of parliament from Lango sub region under their umbrella, Lango Parliamentary group have resolved to hold a peaceful demonstration over poor infrastructure development in the area.
The peaceful demonstration according to the statement released by LPG will start on Saturday 22nd January 2022 with a procession from Lira city town to Kamdini road.
The legislators upset of the delays of the 67 Kilometer Lira-Kamdini road have further given 24hrs ultimatum to government and UNRA to intervene in the matter lest they will proceed to demonstrate.
They said that they have informed the police on the planned demonstration and urged the public to join them on the peaceful march to demand for the immediate, non-negotiable reconstruction of the Lira-Kamdini highway.
The MPs also want government to look for alternative funds to begin reconstruction as the endless World Bank processes proceed and asked the President to intervene on the matter of Lango roads.
The Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group Judith Alyek also Kole District woman MP says as Lango MPs, they have exhausted all measures of dialogue with UNRA, the Minister of Works and the Prime Minister on the Lira-Kamdini road.
The group’s vice chairperson Moses Okot Bitek contends that the people of Lango are tired of burying their people from road accidents and we are done with persistent writing of letters and raising issues on the floor of parliament on this road.
Alyek urged to president Museveni to intervene in the state of roads in Lango sub region noting that raising the matter on the floor of parliament has not helped.
On Sunday, UNRA released a statement stating the design for the planned intervention on the total reconstruction and completion of work yet to start after clearance of safeguards documents by the World Bank.
The authority said the contractor is sufficiently equipped and on site to immediately embark on the works.
