A catechism teacher in the Church of Uganda has been killed and his body dumped in flowing river Nyabakazi in Kabale district along Kabale – Mbarara road.
Living Aryatwijuka, 40, a catechist at Rubira CoU and resident of Katookye village, Kigata parish, Kyanamira sub-county in Kabale district was on Saturday January 20 found floating in River Nyabakazi after a long search following suspected disappearance from his home which was reported on January 15.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on January 15, at around 1000hrs, the victim left home on his motorcycle and did not come back until 2100hrs when his wife Prudence Ninsiima, 38, started calling on his telephone number but it was off.
A search for the victim commenced but it did not yield results. Some of the victim’s belongings such as a jacket (Maroon in color) were discovered abandoned in the road. The next day on January 16, the victim’s wife was notified that the Boda Boda on which her husband travelled was also abandoned in Lubira village and taken to the area LC2 chairman office by two good samaritans.
Today, January 20, 2024, the deceased body was found floating in the river Nyabakazi on Kabale-Mbarara road.
It is alleged that the victim was killed and his body dumped in the river.
Police led by the scenes of crime officer and the crime inspector, church leaders and homicide detectives visited scene of the crime recorded statements, retrieved the body and carried out a postmortem.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson confirmed the incident stating that no arrest has been made meanwhile investigations is at hand.
