Katonga faction for Forum for Democratic Change headed by the Kira municipality member of parliament, Hon. Ssemujju Nganda has suspended with immediate effect the leadership of Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat replacing him with his deputy, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago
This was during a delegates conference convened at Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People’s Government offices at Katonga road on Tuesday.
The delegation further passed a resolution to suspend party Secretary General Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi and party Treasurer General Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya.
“Their deputies Harold Kaijja and Hon. Francis Mwijukye will replace them as Secretary General and Treasurer respectively,” read Hon. Ssemujju.
The new leaders have been appointed for an interim period.
During the conference, all delegates agreed to set up an interim Electoral Commission to oversee the free and fair elections of new leaders setting aside recently concluded elections under the chairmanship of Hon. Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda.
It has also been resolved that a disciplinary committee be instituted investigate the conduct of the suspended leaders.
All these happened as the army and police were spraying teargas to disperse some party members who had convened at Nature Green Resort Busabala for the said Extra Ordinary Delegates Conference which party chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa had earlier called to convene in Busabala. The conference was however blocked by the High court in Kampala.
