The Kampala Metropolitan Police – South and Katwe Division have arrested and charged Menya Moses in connection with a deadly road rage incident on July 15, 2023, in Kironde Zone, Kabowa, Lubaga Division.
It is reported that Ssentongo Reagan alias Abtex was travelling to a burial in a taxi with other mourners when they were involved in a minor accident with a bodaboda rider, Wasswa, who was carrying a female passenger. An argument broke out between the two drivers, and when Reagan got out of the taxi, he pushed Wasswa so hard that the latter hit his head on the ground and lost consciousness. Boda boda passenger Teopista raised the alarm that Wasswa had died.
Reacting to the incident, residents from Kisenyi metal yard chased Reagan and eventually apprehended him, but not before they had beaten him severely. PC Baluku intervened and handed Reagan over to police, who rushed him to Mulago Hospital for treatment. Tragically, Reagan later died on July 23, 2023, while still receiving treatment at Kirudu Hospital. His relatives retrieved his body and protested in Kisenyi before abandoning it near the railway line. The authorities later moved the body to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The police condemn reckless acts of aggression that endanger human life and urge motorists to exercise self-discipline around other road users. Moses is currently in police custody and has been charged with murder. The authorities plan to ensure that justice is served in this case.
