Greater Bushenyi region police is investigating suspected suicide by arson for a man who locked himself inside his home and set it on fire.
The incident happened on Sunday 25 February, 2024 at around 02:00hrs in Muganda D village, Muganda parish, Ryeru sub-county, Rubirizi.
Police said the deceased, Colman Twesigye was a known drunkard and a suspected drug addict.
“It was established that the deceased was staying alone in the house, he was a known drunkard and suspected to be a drug addict,” police reported.
The deceased reportedly made several calls before dying. He was found lying dead facing up on his mattress in the sitting room after a resident identified as Lawrence Karimunda l, 50, broke into the house after seeing smoke coming out of the house.
Karimunda alerted residents l, the area chairman and reported the matter to police which examined and documented the scene. A postmortem was carried out by Dr. Alex from Lugazi Health Centre IV pending retrieval.
Police further noted that the deceased body was burnt beyond recognition. No arrests have so far been made and police is inquiries are ongoing.
