The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has cautioned media houses, schools, and internet users against publicly disclosing the personal details of learners when releasing examination outcomes.
The warning follows guidance from the Personal Data Protection Unit, which noted that publishing names, photographs, or individual grades of candidates on notice boards or digital platforms exposes learners to harassment, stigma, and emotional distress.
UNEB emphasized that such practices contravene the Data Protection and Privacy Act, which prohibits the publication of children’s personal data. Instead, schools, journalists, and media practitioners are urged to adopt alternative methods of sharing examination results that safeguard the privacy of learners.
Delivering the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, UNEB officials reiterated the importance of protecting children’s rights in the digital age. “It is now my singular honor to release the 2025 PLE results for public use, and I thank you all for listening to me,” the statement concluded.
The reminder comes at a time when examination results often dominate public discourse, with UNEB stressing that transparency must be balanced with the protection of learners’ dignity and privacy.
