The Rukungiri police has registered a tragic incident involving a motorcycle, resulting in the death of one individual. The victim, identified as Austin Abaho, was a 26-year-old volunteer medical clinical officer at Nyakibale hospital and a resident of Kebison Town council. The accident occurred as Abaho was returning home from work, riding the motorcycle with registration number UDY 134Y.
According to reports, Abaho left Nyakibale hospital at around 01:25 am while traveling through a location called Katoogo, he encountered a pothole on the road. Unable to maintain control, he collided with a metallic side road guard and fell from his motorcycle. Tragically, Abaho succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
Following the incident, the police were notified and promptly arrived at the scene. They thoroughly investigated and documented the area, gathering vital evidence pertaining to the crash. Abaho’s body was then transported to the mortuary at Nyakibale hospital to undergo a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the motorcycle involved in the accident has been secured at the Rukungiri Central Police Station, awaiting inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
As authorities continue to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident, the Kigezi Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Elly Maate, emphasized the ongoing nature of the inquiry. The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation in order to determine the precise cause of the accident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This tragic accident serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of road safety and the necessity for motorists to remain vigilant while navigating the roadways. It is a loss not only for the family and friends of Austin Abaho but also for the entire community.
