President Museveni has asked the ministry of lands to carry out a nationwide cencus of land owners commonly known as landlords to help government the proper panning of the landless persons as well as resolving land disputes in the country.
This has been revealed by the state minister of lands, housing and urban planning Princess Persis Namuganza.
According to Namuganza, the exercise will begin very soon at a date she did not disclose. This comes at a time when many there are many unresolved cases of land eveictions in various parts of Uganda.
The minister however says that preparations by government to end longstanding land conflicts in potential areas are in pipelines to help the victims especially those living in areas of Sango Bay.
Minister Namuganza says that the exercise will not affect the land owners but will enable government to work with them and come up with possible measures on harmonizing land conflicts and ensure the landless people acquire land for development.
She also disclosed government plans to institute land tribunals to settle land related conflicts in different parts of the country.
Recently, the Kiboga district woman member of parliament, Hon. Christine Kaaya Nakimwero, demanded president Museveni to table to parliament the Bamugemeire Land Inquiry Report to help in creation of land reforms in the country highly anticipated by the public
On July 29th, 2020, Justice Bamugemeire and her 7 member committee shared the report to the President on 29th of July 2020, unfortunately the report has not been publicly.
