At least one suspect has been fatally injured and later succumbed to injuries and his accompliced on run after they robbed a hostel accommodating students of Kabale Institute of Health Science.
On Thursday 4th August, 2022 at around 01:00AM, three thugs armed with machetes broke into a hostel of Kabale Institute of Health Science in Makanga Cell while students were asleep and robbed them of their properties.
The students are Byamukama Innocent, Arinanye Erasmus, Asiimire Ranger and Naturinda Francis all students of the same institute.
The robbers stole mattresses, documents, books and later managed to escape from the scene using motor vehicle Registration Number UAR 279F a Toyota Premio.
However, they (students) were able to sound an alrm that attracted others who intercepted the car.
It is alleged that when the students intercepted the car, one of the uspects attempted to fight back using a panga but he was overpowere.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson says that the suspect who he identified as Shafik Gumisiriiza Kato got injured by his panga in the scuffle.
The other two suspects managed to escape and drove away to a place called Rwakaraba trading center, where they abandoned the car and took off with the stolen properties.
Maate further says that the car is suspected to have been stolen a previous day from a parking yard at Royal comfort bar.
Two cases of Aggravated robbery and another of vehicle theft were registered,
Kato Gumisiriza Shafik (injured suspect) was rushed to Kabale referral hospital for medication where he breathed his last.
His body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem. Police was also able to identify the two suspects on run.
