Illegal structures across Ishaka – Bushenyi municipality in Bushenyi District face demolition because they hinder development, mmunicipal council has said.
Jonan Mukundane, the senior enforcement officer has told Parrots UG that some of the buildings are constructed on road reserves without approval from urban and division authorities.
The campaign to demolish the illegal structures has started today with the demolition of some structures in St. Kagwa trading centre and it will be rolled out to other parts of the municipality.
Among the demolished structures includes the house belonging to a business man Patrice Rwecungura which authorities say was constructed without a physical plan approved by municipal physical planning department.
The municipality accuse some landlords of turning their land into a way of making money from government or investors as they demand heavy compensation, hence dragging projects.
Mukundane says that demolishing the illegal structures will help to create sanity within the area.
He added that they are targeting over 40 buildings across the three divisions of Bushenyi -ishaka municipality that were all built without approved plan from the Municipality.
