A Pokopoko Bus Company bus heading from Kasese to Kampala was involved in a road accident near Rwimi river valley in Rugendabara-Kikolongo town council, Kasese district, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus, registration number UBP 415C, was descending into Rwimi valley at around 1:30 am when it encountered a slippery road surface caused by suspected oil spills. The bus driver struggled to control the vehicle, leading to the accident.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although the extent of injuries sustained by passengers is yet to be confirmed.
Wilfred Baluku Kamusede, an administrator with Pokopoko Bus Company, confirmed the incident, stating that the bus was carrying passengers from Kasese to Kampala when the accident occurred.
“We are grateful that no one died in the accident, and we are currently assessing the situation to determine the extent of damage and injuries,” Kamusede said.
The police have not issued an official statement on the accident, but investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.
The public is urged to exercise caution and report any hazardous road conditions to the authorities.
