National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) Commissioner Hellen Seku urged Kampala Central Division boda boda riders to remain vigilant and responsible while doing their work.
“Drive with care and passion, avoiding recklessness,” Seku emphasized, highlighting President Kaguta Museveni’s reduced license costs as a blessing that should be reciprocated with hard work and integrity.
Seku made the remarks today at the Pan African Square in Kampala while handing over wind shields to boda boda riders of Kampala and Wakiso which they had earlier requested from H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Seku praised the riders’ transformation since their patriotism training that was held at the Oliva Reginald Tambo Leadership School – Kaweweta previously,encouraging them to continue embracing unity and patriotism core values.
“I commend you, the boda boda riders, for your exemplary behavior since President Kaguta Museveni offered you patriotism training in Kaweweta. Your transformation is truly commendable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the President for not only empowering you with patriotism but also for reducing your license costs, a gesture that has alleviated financial burdens,”
“Your reformation is a shining example of the positive impact of leadership and community engagement. As you continue to thrive, remember that your profession plays a vital role in Uganda’s economy, providing livelihoods for millions. Your dedication to responsible service is crucial.”
“Let us continue to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, and hard work that define your reformed group.”Seku emphasized
She thanked President Museveni for his unwavering support, citing initiatives like PDM, Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Fund that foster economic growth.
“As proud citizens, let’s demonstrate our love for Uganda by embracing initiatives that foster economic growth. Notably, the government’s wealth creation programs, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga Youth Livelihood Program, offer valuable opportunities to enhance our incomes and transform our communities,”
“Seize these initiatives, invest in your future, and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic development.”said Seku
The State Minister for Youth Affairs Balaam Barugahara warned riders against using President Museveni’s image as a license to commit crimes, instead emphasizing obedience to laws and ethical road usage.
“I want to encourage you to be promoters of unity among your fellow riders, discourage violence and embrace national Spirit and patriotism but above all, report all criminal activity to authorities in charge.”stated Barugahara.
Frank Mawejje, representing the drivers, thanked President Museveni for donating wind shields to boda riders which will prevent lung diseases and reduced license fees.He also encouraged fellow drivers to obtain licenses and drive safely.
“On behalf of all boda riders, let me thank Commissioner Seku for her love and support she offers to us. I urge you my fellow boda riders to use the wind shields perfectly well, and avoid driving without helmets, or carrying more than one passenger, we have to work patriotically as our President has always emphasized because we are the ones to put our job in the right order,” said Mawejje.
In a proactive measure to combat boda-boda-related theft, Mawejje announced the deployment of trackers to monitor and apprehend perpetrators. The event was attended by different dignitaries including Kampala Central mayor, Salim Uhuru among others.
