Police in Rukungiri district today recovered a rusty gun type of AK47 Serial Number; UG-UPDF A451015 which was was found hidden in the garden.
According to police, the recovery comes after a tip off from a resident who found the gun in his garden and immediately alerted the police.
Fred Turyakirirahi a resident of Rwengyero Village, Bugangari Sub county Rujumbura in Rukungiri recovered a gun hidden in shrubs while he was cutting elephant grasses in his garden. He never hesitated to tipoff the police at Bugangari subcounty which later alarmed district DPC and other security in the area who came to the scene.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional police Spokesperson said that the gun was found with 21 bullets which according to police and the residents was hidden by unknown criminals who have been using it in terrorizing the area.
By press time, no suspect had been arrested but investigations were underways. A gun recovery case file CRB1113/2020 has been opened at Rukungiri police.
In Related news, a UPDFofficer has been arrested in Kabale district for allegefly defiling a 16-year-old female juvenile.
The suspect identified as Private RA242371 Onesmus Munanura was today found in a lodge at Highland Hotel in Kabale with his prey.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson confirmed the arrest. He revealed that the suspect is a resident of Kakatunda village, Bukinda ward Muhangi T/council in Rukiga district.
According to him, the suspect is a Private serving Updf officer under 5th Division in Northern Uganda currently undergoing a Refresher training in Ruhengyere Kiruhura district.
Maate said that the girl went missing from her home in Kiyora village Mwendo parish Kitumba Sub county Kabale district on Sunday and her parent’s have since searched for her in vain until today morning when they found out that she has been sleeping over with an army officer in a lodge.
“We have instituted investigations into the matter and the suspect is being held at Kabale Police Station” Maate said.
He condemned the acts of a police officer and sworn to fight against all kinds of immorality meant to damage the image of the updf.
A defilement case file underreference CRB596/2020 has been opened to aid in investigations.
