Nkinga Catholic Centre church, in Nkinga B cell, Nkinga parish Mitooma Sub county Ruhinda county Mitooma district has been partially deroofed following a heavy storm that hit the area on Thursday afternoon.
The chairperson Local Council 1 Nkinga B village, Karimbare Silverno said heavy storms that lasted for over two hours blown off the roof of one branch of the church and other roof sides were weakened in the incident.
He said a number of food crops like maize plantations, banana plantations, beans and cassava trees and coffee were totally destroyed.
According to Moses Ahimbisibwe, a resident of Nkinga B cell, the storms also affected neighboring village of Nkinga A destroying crops, and some houses swept off.
An old widow only identified as Kamarembo, a resident of Nkinga A, in her late 80’s living with her two grand children was left homeless after the heavy downpours destroyed her house.
Parrots UG has learned that no lives were hurt during this incident.
Karindane appeals to the district authorities and the area member of parliament, Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, the government and other well-wishers to come to their rescue and give them food relief and fast growing seedlings.
