Magistrate Court sitting in Ntungamo has today Tuesday September 13, granted a Shs 4m cash bail to Mwesigwa Rukutaana, the state minister for Labour and Industrial Development from Kitalya Prison where he been imprisoned since September 7, on charges of attempted murder, threatening violence and malicious damage.
The charges erupted during the NRM Primaries in Rushenyi, Ntungamo District.
Mr Rukutana was arrested earlier this month after a shooting incident which left Mr. Dan Rwiburingi with serious head injuries as the Minister tussled for the NRM flag for Rushenyi County against veteran politician Naome Kabasharira.
In a bail application, Minister Rukutana through his lawyers led by Owen Murangira sought to dismiss concerns by state prosecution that he was likely to interfere with investigations once out on bail.
Court therefore granted him a bail and set stringent orders on to him.
Court asked the minister to deposit his passport and asked his three sureties to pay a non-cash bond of Shd 50m each.
His sureties includes former Information Minister Jim Katuguugu Muhwezi, Businessman Bib Kabonero and Igara East MP Michael Mawanda Malanga.
The lawyers argued that mere allegations that he would interfere with investigations were not enough grounds to deny their client a bail.
