Shine Leadership International has organised an eight week youth empowerment program dubbed, “The youth empowered leadership and entrepreneurship training”, aimed at equipping the youths with core skills upon which they can thrive in life and in the world of work.

The youth empowered leadership and entrepreneurship training is an eight weeks online soft skills training and mentorship programme that seeks to empower the youth with core 21st century skills needed to thrive in life and in the world of work. The program kicked off on Friday 30th June 2023 with an online orientation.

It is being conducted by Shine Leadership International in collaboration with different educators, the Student Hub, African Centre for Career Mentorship, Ignite Potential, Bwongo Consult, Tutelage Consult, Snacks 4 U, and Little Winnie Foundation.

According to Anita Malinga, a co-founder at Shine Leadership International, this program is geared towards helping the youths innovate and create their own businesses and to equip them with core employability skills needed be employers.

Through this program, the youths are exposed to various global opportunities that they can exploit in order to advance in their careers.

“It’s also in line with SDG Eight and specifically aims at promoting employment, education and Training of the Youth in abid to solve the youth unemployment problem that we are grappling with as a nation but also the world at large,” Malinga told Parrots Ug.

“Our approach is to equip them with the necessary Entrepreneurship Skills that can help them start and manage their own businesses but also adress the concern of the skills gap by equipping them with core work readiness skills that employers are looking for,” she added.

She also added that,”as a country we graduate more people and yet the jobs created are few and yet also those that get the jobs are faced with a lack of core skills needed which are the soft skills, this is what we are trying to adress as Shine Leadership in collaboration with different educators, consultancies and Non profit organisation.”

Recent reports indicate that there is a decline in Unemployment in Uganda with Statista reporting in 2022, that the unemployment rate in country remained nearly unchanged at around 4.28 percent. Statista also indicates that 2022 marked the second consecutive decline of the unemployment rate in Uganda.

With more organisations, the government and individuals, turning the attention to empowering the Youth, there is hope that Unemployment will soon cease to be one of the problems faced by the pearl of Africa.
