Police in Kole district has arrested a 23-year-old man on allegations of killing his own father over Shillings 5,000.

The suspect is James Olugu, a resident of Barigri cell, Eastern ward in Aboke town council.

He wad arrested on Sunday evening shortly after striking his father Alex Ogwang with a piece of dry wood on the forehead killing him instantly.

According to George Ocwic, an eyewitness, the deceased was punishing his teenage daughter for the alleged theft of the money worth UShs 5,000 When he intervened to separate them.

As the suspect intervened to save his sister, he exchanged bitter words with the father and out of anger, the suspect picked  a dry timber wood which he used to strike his father on the forehead and died on spot.

The North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema, has confirmed to the he incident noting that police the suspect is already in custody as investigations continue.

A case of murder under file no: CRB 091/2021 has been recorded at Kole police.

Between January and May 2021, police in North Kyoga region registered 92 murder cases. According to police, mob justice, domestic violence, murder by shooting, poisoning and use of blunt objects are the biggest contributor to murder cases.
