KAMPALA
In the run-up to the forthcoming Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025, scheduled for December 11, Stanbic Bank has announced a scholarship programme to motivate Uganda’s digital creators.

The initiative reflects the bank’s broader support for the government’s digital transformation strategy in sustaining Uganda’s economic growth. Part of this strategy is fostering a vibrant digital market ecosystem.

Speaking during a news conference at Onomo Hotel recently, Lois Aber Kwikiriza, the Stanbic Marketing and Brand Manager, CIB & BCB said, “These scholarships will give creators world-class capabilities to grow, monetise, and professionalise their work. This speaks to our commitment to youth empowerment and digital transformation.”

Uganda’s creator economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors driven by youth, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. The summit is a national platform designed to empower young creators with digital skills, business capacity, financial literacy, together with insights to responsible content practices.

It is being organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Ongea Africa and the Uganda Digital Society with the Lead Sponsor being Stanbic Bank.

The annual Stanbic Digital Content Creator Annual Prize, features five scholarship categories namely, Creator of the Year (Premium Professional Course); Emerging Creator Award (Short Course); Social Impact Creator Award (Mid-Level Course); Entertainment Excellence Award Motion Graphics & Animation and the Financial Literacy Creator Award – Business & Management Insights.

Kwikiriza said the awards also align with Stanbic’s new Women Youth and Farmers (WYF) Agenda. This is a UGX1 trillion three-year programme which started during mid-2025 to unlock access to credit, provide enterprise growth support, and promote digital and financial inclusion.

Referring to the bank’s financial solutions specifically targeting young entrepreneurs, Kwikiriza said, “This Summit aligns directly with Stanbic Bank’s purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth’. Stanbic is investing UGX 1 trillion over the next three years to expand opportunities for young Ugandans, including those in the digital creator space.”

Speaking for Ongea Africa, Joseph Kanyamunyu said the Summit is not just an event, but a national development platform. The Ongea Skills Lab will offer digital and business skill-building.

Other key objectives of the Summit include providing participants with policy awareness as mandated by the UCC. During the Summit the UCC will highlight licensing and regulation to ensure a secure and innovative digital ecosystem as well as innovation and digital skills through ICT labs, device distribution, and the UCC Innovation Hub Fair.

Kenneth Tweheyo, the UCC Head of Competition and Consumer Affairs said, “We support platforms like the Ongea Summit, because they encourage responsible content creation, digital safety, and innovation. Together, we can grow a safe, inclusive, and empowered digital ecosystem.”
