The Catholic Diocese of Nyeri launched the “Year of Hope” today, February 1, 2025, with a powerful call to spiritual purity from Bishop Anthony Muheria. The launch, marked by a special Mass, brought together clergy, consecrated religious men and women, and lay faithful from across the diocese.
In his homily, Bishop Muheria urged the clergy and religious to detach from vices such as gluttony, envy, pride, and lust, which can lead to spiritual decay. He commended them for their dedicated service to the Church and encouraged continued collaboration for the common good.
The “Year of Hope” was proclaimed by His Holiness Pope Francis at the beginning of this year, in response to global challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and conflict. Despite these challenges, the Pope emphasized that God still offers hope.
Bishop Muheria echoed this message, urging the faithful to remain hopeful and to continue spreading the message of mercy and compassion. He also highlighted the importance of hard work and collaboration in achieving the Church’s mission.
The ceremony began with adoration and the sacrament of reconciliation, followed by the celebration of Mass, which included a candle lighting ceremony symbolizing the hope and spiritual light for the future.
The Nyeri Catholic Diocese, originally evangelized by Consolata Missionaries in 1902, continues to thrive under the patronage of Our Lady of Consolata. Today’s launch marks an important milestone in the Church’s ongoing efforts to promote spiritual renewal and hope in the face of adversity.
