Police in Bududa District have arrested a sub-county accountant on allegations of forging the signatures of the sub-county chief and withdrawing money worth Ugx 28m from sub count bank account.
The suspect is an accountant of Nakatsi sub county in Bududa district. He allegedly forged the signature of Grace Apolot, the Sub County chief to enable him to withdraw Shs28 million from the sub-county bank account.
It is alleged that the suspect between February 20, 2021 and August 4, forged the signature of the sub-county chief and withdrew money totaling to Shs28 million from the sub county’s Centenary Bank account.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon regional police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of suspect saying investigations are still ongoing.
Taitika said the suspect was first summoned to police but rejected something that prompted police to track and apprehend him.
“We summoned him to the police, but refused and went into hiding. Our officers tracked and apprehended him.” Taitika said.
The suspect is currently detained at Bududa Central Police Station on charges of theft, forgery, and fraud.
