MASINDI

In a shocking development, the Homicide Department of CID Headquarters, in collaboration with territorial teams in the Albertine region and Masindi district, have apprehended Cherotic Betty, a 31-year-old teacher and housewife, along with several others, in connection with the brutal murder of Dr. Abiriga Jino. Dr. Jino, a highly respected 58-year-old District Health Officer in Masindi, was tragically killed on the night of 7.01.2024 at his residence in Kijura cell, central division, Masindi municipality.

According to reports, the incident unfolded after Dr. Jino attended a friend’s wedding earlier in the day. His driver dropped him off at home around 9pm. Subsequently, Dr. Jino and his wife, Cherotic Betty, retired to their double roomed house where they settled for the night. Their children and dependents, including Aseru Angela, aged 17, Cherotic Maureen, aged 14, Cheprotich Kenneth, aged 11, Afakoru Jackline, aged 12, and Arinaitwe Desire, aged 8, also sought rest in their separate unit within the enclosed premises.

Tragically, Dr. Jino’s life was cruelly cut short as his lifeless body was discovered with a deep cut on his neck and multiple wounds on his head and hand, dumped 50 meters away from his residence. An immediate investigation was launched, and investigators discovered suspicious blood stains on the bedroom walls and under the marital bed.

Amidst the ongoing investigation, Cherotic Betty claims that her husband received a phone call summoning him for an emergency medical operation, after which he never returned home. However, authorities have yet to find any concrete evidence supporting her account. Additionally, she maintains that the blood stains in the bedroom were the result of her menstrual cycle. It is essential for the public to remain aware that, despite attempts to conceal this heinous act, the truth will ultimately be revealed.

CID Headquarters, along with the territorial teams, remain committed to diligently uncovering the truth and bringing justice to the late Dr. Abiriga Jino. As the investigation proceeds, the community is encouraged to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials and to provide any relevant information that may aid in this pursuit of justice.

The arrest of Cherotic Betty, marks a significant turning point in the ongoing case. Authorities hope that by apprehending the prime suspect, they will be able to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Dr. Jino’s untimely demise.
