Legislators from the Forum for Democratic Change have been accused of going against a decision by the opposition lawmakers to boycott plenaries over continued human rights violations.
The accused are party Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Budadiri County West), Yusuf Nsibambi (Mawokota) and Geoffrey Ekanya (Torooro North County).
The Buhweju county member of parliament Hon. Francis Mwijukye said the trio have been summoned to the party disciplinary committee over misconduct.
“Those members of the FDC who have decided to work with the oppressor are not part of us and not working for us. We have asked the disciplinary committee to summon them so that we know what they are doing and why they’re doing it like that, ” Mwijukye said.
He said as opposition ,they are waiting for the 30 days given by the leader of opposition wherever, they will find the way forward.
Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa said FDC obeys to collective decisions by the opposition in parliament and disassociated with the three lawmakers.
According to Birigwa human rights is a universal rights and therefore should be respected by all persons.
“FDC condemns with highest terms possible the continued violations of human rights and stands with opposition in demanding for the respect of human rights,” said Amb. Birigwa.
On October 17, opposition members walked out of parliament chambers, and vowed not to return to parliament citing government alleged indifference to multiple human rights violations on their supporters, demanding full accountability for the November 2020 incident.
The leader of opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga has asked opposition members of parliament who defied their position of boycotting Parliament to leave the opposition side and find space where to sit on NRM side.Mpuuga says their action is giving a bad image to the opposition, calling them to be clear where their allegiance lies.
The boycott has continued up to date as demands for a comprehensive report on missing persons is brought to parliament and discussed.
