Traders in Kisenyi, Fort Portal tourism city are in tears after fire burnt their property worth millions of shillings.
Eye witnesses say the fire started today in the afternoon from one of the restaurant before spreading to other stalls.
A number of properties including timber shops, wooden shops, motor vehicle and motorcycles garage, stationary vehicles near the scene were destroyed. Smoke fumes from the fire also damaged part of Sky View Hotel.
Richard Muhumuza, the central Division mayor said the fire was due to buildings that do not meet the required standards.
Kisenyi timber market in Fort Portal is famously known of cases of fire outbreaks. Mayor Muhumuza called for physical planning to avoid recurring fire outbreaks in the city.
Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire and investigations are still ongoing.
