On Sunday morning, two former Members of Parliament from Rukungiri on FDC ticket narrowly escaped a serious accident on the Kampala-Masaka Highway.
The former lawmakers, Hon Rolland Mugume Kaginda for Rukungiri municipality and Hon Betty Muzanira Rukungiri woman MP were traveling in a vehicle with registration number UBM 874 when the incident occurred in Lwera.
The vehicle lost control and overturned multiple times, but thankfully, both occupants were wearing seat belts and only sustained minor injuries.The two were on their way to Rukungiri District to attend a function when the accident took place.
The driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a boda boda cyclist who was joining from an adjacent junction, and their lives were also spared.
The two former MPs received First Aid treatment and continued their journey after being rescued by a good samaritan. The wreckage of the vehicle has been taken to Lukaya Police Station for further investigation.
Authorities have urged all road users to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent unnecessary accidents and loss of life.
