UBOS to conduct national cencus next year

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics – UBOS has revealed that it will conduct National Housing and Population Census in 2022 not in 2024 as earlier planned.

Chris Mukiza, the UBOS Executive Director says the statistics body require Shs138.6bn to carry out the 2022 census of livestock and 2022 national population and housing census.

“The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is an agency of the Ugandan government. Formed by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, the agency is mandated to “coordinate, monitor and supervise Uganda’s National Statistical System”. It was founded on June 11, 1998. Currently, the body is under the leadership of; Agency executives: Robin Kibuuka, Chairman; Chris Mukiza, Executive DirectorDirector”

It should be understood that UBOS carries out national population census every after ten years and the last one was carried out in 2014. But executive director noted that the census will be carried out two years earlier in order to enable the country have an up to dated data.

“We have decided to have the census next year to enable the country to have up to date data for implementation of the National Development Plan III,” Mukiza said.

He made the remarks while appearing before the parliamentary committee on finance to present their 2019/20 financial review.

Parrots UG learned that the national population census will be carried out between August and of September, 2022.

The current population ofUganda is 46,661,032 as of Monday, February 22, 2021, based on Worldometer elaboration of the latest United Nations data. Uganda 2020population is estimated at 45,741,007 people at mid year according to UN data. Uganda population is equivalent to 0.59% of the total worldpopulation.
