The Uganda national carrier, Uganda Airlines has announced the introduction of scheduled services to three new international destinations namely Abuja, Harare, and Lusaka commencing in September 2024.
Speaking at the route announcement yesterday Wednesday 17th July 2024, the Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki said that these additions to the network will increase Uganda’s connectivity to the rest of Africa and bring more choice and convenience to the Airlines guests.
“The new services also mark the second phase of our network development and attest to our mission to bring affordable air travel to Ugandans for business and leisure,” Ms. Bamuturaki said.
She added that; “The New routes also lay the groundwork for the final phase, during which we shall expand our footprint to points in Europe and Asia.”
During the launch, it was revealed that the new Abuja route will commence on September 12, 2024, with flights operated every Sunday and Thursday by the A330-800 aircraft. This will be an extension of the regular flights to Lagos, which operate every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday.
Flights to Lusaka and Harare will launch on September 25, 2024, and will operate four times a week using the CRJ-900 aircraft.
The new services, combined with the existing services to Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Dubai, Johannesburg, Juba, Kilimanjaro, Kinshasa, Lagos, Mogadishu, Mombasa, Mumbai, Nairobi, and Zanzibar, expand the Uganda Airlines coverage to 16 destinations in 13 countries.
The national carrier believes that the triple launch is a milestone creating an air bridge between West Africa and Southern Africa, and brings convenience and seamless connectivity, enabling multiple opportunities in business, trade, tourism, and socio-cultural linkages.
