Ugandan Member of Parliament, Agnes Apea, has undergone successful spine surgery at Manipal Hospital in Delhi, India. The legislator shared the update on social media, X (formerly Twitter) expressing gratitude for the excellent care and support received from the medical staff.
Apea, who is undergoing her second major spine surgery, has appealed for prayers from her constituents and well-wishers as she focuses on her recovery. The MP’s health update has sparked an outpouring of support and well wishes from colleagues and citizens alike.
Dr Agnes Apea is the CEO and founder of Mama Rice and the Hope Development Initiative, a women’s farmer’s cooperative with over 11,000 members in Uganda’s Lango sub-region. She was named among the most 100 innovative women in the world by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 2017.
This development comes at a time when the Ugandan parliament is grappling with allegations of corruption and calls for accountability. Apea’s health situation has temporarily taken her away from the unfolding drama in Kampala, but she will soon return to the political scene.
