As Uganda prepares to celebrate its 62nd Independence Day on October 9, the question on everyone’s mind is: what does independence really mean for Ugandans?
According to Ismail Kiirya, Ag party spokesperson, the country has lost the true essence of independence, he cited concerns over human rights violations, high debt burden, and political prisoners, among others.
“The health system broke down long time ago because government hospitals are only for those who can’t afford private facilities, ” he added.
According to Mr. Kiirya, Uganda lost the meaning of the day since the country lost the glory of Independence.
Uganda is celebrating her 62nd Independence tomorrow Wednesday 9th October, 2024, at Busikho Teachers Demonstration Primary School Grounds in Masafu Town Council, Busia district. This year’s independence day is themed: “A re-comittment to secure and fortify our Destiny.”
