A UPDF soldier, Corporal Andebo Collins, attached to Makindye Military Police, on Tuesday morning shot himself dead after he had shot dead his wife, Peroni Atulinda.
The officer clad in civilian clothes and armed with an AK47 riffle gun, on Tuesday at around 07:00hrs confronted his wife as she was jumping on a motorcycle and shot her dead.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police said Peroni has been a support staff with the military police. He said the couple has been in a known relationship and had been residing together in Lusaka Zone, Makindye 1, Makindye Division, but recently separated over unknown misunderstandings.
“He opened fire on her, resulting in her sustaining a shattered arm. Subsequently, Corporal Andebo Collins turned the firearm on himself, resulting in his demise upon arrival at Mulago Hospital’s casualty ward.”
Police from Katwe Police Station and the Military Police responded to the scene, and rushed the wife to Nsambya Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“At this juncture, our inquiries are ongoing to comprehensively understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Statements have been recorded from witnesses to aid in our investigation,” said Owoyesigyire.
Police recovered the killer gun with 13 rounds of ammunition from the scene while Atulinda’s body was conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination.
