A tragic incident unfolded in Rukungiri District on April 20, 2025, when an 18 year old Mucunguzi Denis was found dead in a bar corridor at Kihogo Trading Center, Nyarwanya Cell, Burora Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county. The case was registered as murder at Rubabo Police station, and investigations are underway.
According to reports, the deceased was at Vegas Club, owned by Naboth, when a scuffle broke out between him and Victor, a resident of Ruhuga Cell, Ntungamo District. Victor accused Mucunguzi of stealing a phone belonging to his cousin, Ainembabazi Gloria. The altercation escalated, and the bar owner pushed the two outside. Mucunguzi attempted to flee, but Victor allegedly followed him into the corridor. Shortly after, Victor left the bar hurriedly with his sister Catherine, while Ainembabazi remained behind, searching for her phone.
Bar patrons later discovered Mucunguzi lying in a pool of blood. His brother, Tumwesigye Sam, was informed and reported the matter to local authorities and the police. A team of homicide detectives responded to the scene, and Ainembabazi Gloria was arrested by residents to assist with investigations. The body of the deceased was later transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Elly Maate,the Kigezi region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and that suspects, including Victor, are currently on the run.
“Inquiries into the case are ongoing, and authorities are working to bring those responsible to justice”, said Maate.
