A medical report by health experts at the Uganda Prisons Services has indicated that Pentizer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija was  tortured and wounded on the back, buttocks and the thighs, a torture inflicted on him by the military.

Kakwenza was on 28 December, 2021, abducted at his Kisaasi home by military operatives and detained at unknown detention where he was allegedly subjected to human torture.

On January 11, 2022, he was arraigned before the Buganda Road Court magistrate following calls by local and international human rights bodies to government to produce him dead or alive. Court charged him with offensive communication and computer misuse against the Lands Forces Commander, Lt.Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

He was remanded to Kitalya Mini Max until January 21.

On January 13, Kakwenza’s lawyer, Eron Kiiza wrote to the prisons authorities requesting for a medical report on his client, a re-examination of which was done on January 14, on the lawyer’s request.

According to a medical report to the writer’s lawyer, Eron Kiiza, dated January 20, seen by Parrots UG, UPS said that Kakwenza has healing scars of wounds sustained before he was handed over to prison authorities.

“Found 33 years old male prisoner remanded at Kitalya Mini Max prison on January 11, 2022 with complaints of healing scars of wounds sustained before being remanded to prison,” read excerpts of the letter.

Medical report by UPS medical team to Counsel Eron Kiiza, lawyer to jailed Book Author, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija indicating alleged tortures by military personnel.

However, they were quick to note that he (Kakwenza) is not in bad conditions and is recovering.

“On examining, we found him in fair general condition with weight of 87.3kg Height 1.95m and a BMI of 22.9 kgm. The BP was 106/64mmHg with a pulse rate of 78 beats /min which was full volume and regular,” read a report.

It should be recalled that the writer’s lawyer recently told reports that his client was badly tortured and that blood was oozing in his private parts.

Dr. Kisambu James, the Assistant Commissioner Health at UPS says that laboratory tests on Kakwenza did not yield any positive results.

“Systematic examination was normal while the laboratory examination did not yield any positive findings,” Kisambu said.

He added that Kakwenza is on medication for healing scars and in good health condition.

Meanwhile, Kakwenza is expected to appear in court today for further hearing of his case.
