FDC says police deployment at Dr Kizza Besigye’s Kasangati residence is a violation his rights to movement.

“Dr.Besigye like any other Ugandan has a right to freely move within and outside the country. It is therefore illegal and unconstitutional for police to continue surrounding, barricading his house and restricting his movements.” FDC condemned.

Speaking to journalists on Monday at the party headquarters, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda the FDC spokesperson reminded security that there is Court ruling stopping the state from turning Dr. Kizza Besigye’s residence into a prison, but accused them of breaching the court ruling.

It should be noted that Dr Besigye has been under house arrest for over a week after police arrested him for allegedly plotting to resume his ‘walk-ti-work’ campaigns protesting against skyrocketing fuel prices and escalating price of commodities in the country.

Last week, he was arrested and taken to Nagalama police station on similar allegations but police did not find any charges against him and ordered to be taken back to him home.

FDC now demands for the immediate withdrawal of police and military from Besigye’s home and stop interfering with his movements. They say the deployed officers have turned doctor’s garden farms into toilet as they practice open defecation likely to result into cholera outbreak.

As he was still briefing the media, reports started making rounds on social media indicating that police and military had re arrested Dr Besigye as he attempted to leave his home in Buyinja Zone Kasangati to town protesting skyrocketing prices of commodities and fuel in the country.

“I will not accept to be kept in my house like I am a prisoner in my own country. This must stop,” Dr Beisgye said.

He was arrested alongside two other opposition MPs Joan Alobo and Anna Adeke Ebaju among other FDC supporters.

Police first detained him in a waiting police van and by press time details of his whereabouts were yet to be established.

The police have upto now not given any reason for the arrest of Besigye.

Brief Profile of Dr Kizza Besigye
