The Police at Kasangati are holding a security guard at St. Marys Magdalene Namavundu Church of Uganda to help in investigations into the murder of 8-year-old child and attempted murder of 13-year-old child currently admitted at Mulago.
The suspect is Mubatizi John, the askari at St. Marys Magdalene Namavundu Church CoU. It is alleged that the victim on admission told her parents that the suspect and two other blood thirsty men caused harm on to her.
This occurred on Sunday 3rd July, 2022 at Namavundu village Kasangati town council in Wakiso district.
According Stevia Nakakande, 23, she had on the fateful day sent out her two children Nantongo Annet 8 (deceased) and Nakiboneka Sumaya to buy a book.
However, they did not return home prompting the family to put announcements on a community broadcast commonly known as Ekizindalo notifying residents on the loss.
On Monday 4th July, 2022 at around 4pm , one child (Nakiboneka) was found with serious wounds on the head and arms. Nakiboneka who was in deep pains was able to identify her attackers as the church askari and two other men. This prompted a search for her sister.
Unfortunately, Nantongo was recovered dead.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan police said police visited the scene and deployed a canine dog which led them to the askari’s dilapidated house which has been at the same time used for Sunday School at the same church.
“Our canine that led us to the suspects premises from the crime scene where the children were found.” Owoyesigyire said
He attributes the murder of the girl to ritual practice purposes.
“The suspect will be interrogated and more details about this heinous act will be provided in due course,” he added
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago, while Nakiboneka was taken to Mulago hospital for treatment in critical condition.
