The Ministry of Internal Affairs has made appeals to the public who applied for passports to pick them up from the offices in Kyambogo.
While addressing the press today at Police Headquarters, Simon Peter Mundeyi, the ministry spokesperson said that the passports awaiting pick up date way back to 2018.

“Kindly pay particular attention to file numbers because we respected the privacy of the applicants. We hope that whoever applied for a passport knows their file number,” he said.
There has been an improvement in the kind of passports issued. From the ordinary analog passports to easy-use electronic ones. Mundeyi calls upon citizens with the old kind of passports to apply for renewal.
The types of passports issued by the ministry differ as explained by Mundeyi. There are three different passports; ordinary passport, service passport and diplomatic passport.
The ordinary passport; blue in color, costs UgX 250,000 only and is meant for the general public. Only if one wishes to have it issued quickly does he pay an extra UgX 150,000 for express services. This express fee is paid separately from the UgX 250,000 with a different reference number.
The service passport, green in color, costs UgX 400,000 and is for people who fall under a certain class of people like members of Parliament, commissioners of ministries, heads of government ministries and some who have special permission from the Minister of Internal Affairs. The fee is paid using one reference number.
The diplomatic passport, red in color, costs UgX 500,000 and is held by VVIPs as stated by Mundeyi. People that fall under this category include the president of the country, cabinet ministers, ambassadors, permanent secretaries, chair persons of permanent commissions like Electoral Commission, Amnesty Commission Uganda, Public Service Commission and others.
