In grievance moods of the murders of George Floyd, Uganda’s biggest opposition political party FDC has joined international bodies and public figures to strongly condemn racial practices in the United States of America (USA) which target to complete lives of African-Americans in the land.

According to FDC, the murder of George Floyd by the white police officers and the manhandles of peaceful demonstrators in the first world country like US portrays a bad example to the young and developing states where democracy and human rights still remain nightmares.

Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the FDC President said that fdc as the party that is formed on grounds of democracy,  ardently condemns all levels of racial injustices like the one rented on George Floyd in the US.

“We are saddened by the killings targeting African Americans in the USA. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the USA who continue to face racial hatred…” Said gieved Amuriat.

FDC President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat addressing a media briefing today Monday June 1st at party Hqtrs in Najjanankumbi Kampala.

President Amuriat was speaking to the members of the press today during the party weekly press brief at the Party Headquarters in Najjanankumbi Kampala.

                   About George Floyd

George Floyd is a 46-years-old African American who was killed by a group of four White Minneapolis police officers in Powderhorn south downtown of Minneapolis. In an 8minutes and 46seconds video clip which made circulations on internet, on May25th,2020, Floyd is seen lying handcuffed with his facedown and a white Minneapolis police officer keeping his knee on Floyd’s neck which later resulted into his death.

Other officers including; Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas K. Lane participated in Floyd’s arrest, with Kueng holding Floyd’s back, Lane holding his legs, and Thao looking on as he stood nearby.

These were fired on duty and Chauvin has since been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.

The death of George Floyd has prompted demonstrations in the US and other international states. FDC’s condemnations are more less a call for equity and an end to racial discriminations.

During a media briefing, party officials announced the phased reopening of their offices both at National and regional levels.

“Despite the situation that we are in, the FDC has started a phased up reopening of our offices. The headquarter is now fully opening and functional. We have instructed all our regional and district offices to reopen,” FDC’s official statement.

However, President Amuriat noted that the while the offices operate, they should ensure that the Standards Operational Procedures (SOPs) and other set guidelines are observed.

He further gave guidelines such as mandatory wearing of face masks, regular washing of hands and short time meetings during the times of operations as a mean of preventing the possible spread of the deadly corona virus.

On the issue of the forthcoming 2021 General elections, FDC expressed its readiness to participate in the elections sending sincere warnings to the Electoral commission to serve as obliged in preparing for national elections rather than using the pretext of the lockdown.

FDC further appealed to the EC to clear the speculations in the public regarding the planned move to postpone the elections by issuing out a revised electoral roadmap. They (fdc) pledged to issue a full FDc revised road map detailing the measures and processes to be followed in identifying party presidential, parliamentary and local governments’ candidates.

Additionally, he expressed heartfelt sympathies to all Ugandans who were affected by the COVID-19 measures particularly the medical personnels who have rendered in everything to save lives of Ugandans.

“To the medical personnel, we salute your resilience amidst a low pay and lack of protection equipments.” Amuriat appluded Medics.
