31 foreign truck drivers tested negative at border points and were denied entry handing them back to their respective governments.


Official communications from the Office of the Prime Minister show that First Deputy Prime Minister , Gen Moses Ali has been appointed to run government businesses moments after Rt Hon PM Ruhakana Rugunda announced he is going in self isolation.

Info from the OPM indicates that Gen Ali shall on the other hand play the premier roles on the COVID-19 National TaskForce.

Earlier today Friday June5th,2020, Prime Minister Rugunda tweeted that he has decided to go into a 14days self isolation after some of the people he came into contacts with tested positive for corona virus.

“Friends, I have gone into self-isolation after some of my contacts tested positive for #COVID19. My own test result is negative, however, I have taken this decision as a health recommended measure,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

PM Rugunda’s tweet follow MoH reports confirming 35 new COVID-19 cases bringing the number to confirmed cases to 557.

In a MoH statement signed by Dr Charles Oralo which was released today, all confirmed cases are ugandans. These includes; Fifteen (15) cases which were confirmed from 1,412 samples from points of entry and Twenty (20) cases which were confirmed from 855 samples of contacts and alerts.

According to Dr Oralo, Seven of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border point, two are truckers who arrived from Kenya via Busia border point while three cases are from Lira, Malaba and Orabo points of entry, two cases are members of security team at Elegu border. Another one confirmed case is a trucker who arrived via Ngomokomo, Gulu district.

Where as 20 cases are alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases. These include; 7 from Kenya, five from Amuru, 3 from Mayuge, 2 from Kyotera, 1 from Wakiso, 1 from Dokolo and 1 from Amolatar districts.

Dr Oralo further revealed that a total number of 31 foreign truck drivers tested negative at border points and were denied entry handing them back to their respective governments. These were; 18 Kenyans, 7 Tanzanians, 4 Congolese and 2 Burundians.

Uganda has by today Friday June 5th registered only 557 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 82 recoveries and no fatalities.

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Spokesperson Ministry of Health said that the Ministry shall start testing samples of all cabinet ministers for COVID-19 to ensure their health safety.

Ainebyoona said that ministry decided to test cabinet members since they go meeting many people in different parts of the country. He added that samples shall be taken out from each member at least every after two weeks.
