President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has credited the kingdom of Bunyoro Kitara for a great contribution in provision of socio economic infrastructure services. It’s in this faith that he donated 50 million shillings that was delivered by prime minister Nabbanja who also gave the kingdom 10 million.
In his speech delivered by Rt. Hon. Robbinah Nabbanja who represented him as the chief guest, president Museveni congratulated the kingdom upon reaching 29 years of enthronement since restoration.
Museveni has also credited the kingdom of Bunyoro Kitara for a great contribution in provision of socio economic infrastructure services.
Hundreds of people across Bunyoro on Sunday flocked the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom’s parliamentary gardens in Hoima city to celebrate the 29th coronation anniversary of Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru the first.
The coronation anniversary, traditionally known as Empango, is celebrated annually on the day the reigning king of Bunyoro was enthroned .
Iguru I was enthroned on 11th June 1994, following the restoration of kingdoms by President Yoweri Museveni’s government after their abolishment by the Obote I government in 1969.
The celebrations attracted people from the districts of Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kikuube, Kakumiro, Buliisa, Kiryandongo and other parts of the country, the majority of whom were dressed in traditional attire most of them being Banyoro.
Among other guests who graced the occasion were, Steven Kiyingi the Toro Kingdom prime minister,Rebecca Kadaga the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, finance minister Matia Kasaija and members of Parliament.
Omukama Iguru missed today’s coronation anniversary because of illness and the chief Prince Fred Mugenyi delivered a State of the Kingdom address on behalf of the royal family.
Religious leaders present prayed for the health of the king and called upon subjects to remain united.
The queen of Bunyoro kingdom Omugo Magret Karunga Adyeeri has thanked president Museveni for always supporting the king and their family during both hard and good times.
Finance minister Matia Kasaija and Rebecca Kadaga thanked the leadership of Bunyoro for championing unity.
