LUGAZI
Police in Lugazi are holding a social media influencer on allegations of being a member of the ADF rebel group that attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese last weekend.
The suspect is Resto Kalenzi, 25, a shop attendant and resident of Namengo village, Lugazi municipality.
He reportedly took to his Tik Tok page and shared a video clip claiming responsibility for killing innocent students in Kasese and threatened to kill more people at public gatherings like concerts.
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa region police spokesperson confirmed reports of arrest and disclosed that the suspect is detained at Lugazi Central Police Station.
“The arrest was made following the circulation of a video on TikTok, where Kalenzi Resto proudly confessed to his involvement in the brutal murder of students at Lhubirira Secondary School. This video has been widely shared and garnered significant attention on social media platforms,” Butoto’s statement reads in part.
More reports show that Kalenzi posted another video pleading for pardon arguably saying that the first video was a “joke” denying any knowledge of the attack however, police investigation into the matter are ongoing.
“The Lugazi Police, in coordination with relevant authorities, will conduct a thorough examination of all evidence and gather further information. We assure the public that we are committed to bringing all individuals involved in acts of terrorism and violence to justice,” Butoto added.
She urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity and or information helpful in this probe.
