Former police commander, Gen Edward Kalekyezi Kayihura has been named among the 11 Generals set to retire from the national army in August this year.

According to a press statement by the army spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye PSC (K), dated July 3, the president has approved the retirement of General Kayihura, 10 other Generals and 99 army officers from the forces in Batch 13 A.

“H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has approved the retirement of 110 General Officers and Senior Officers from the UPDF. 11 Generals and 99 Senior Officers from the rank of Major to Colonel,” read Kulayigye’s statement in parts

Kulayigye said in a statement that the retirees will retire on 31st August, 2023.

Among General Officers who will retire include:

8. RO/02855 BRIG GEN FRANK KATENDE KYAMBADDE
9. RO/02909 BRIG GEN EMMANUEL KWIHANGANA
10. RO/07175 BRIG GEN WILSON MUHABUZI
11. RO/07698 BRIG GEN HAM ATWOKI KAIJA

He said officers whose names have not been approved for retirement in Batch 13A will be catered for in batch 13 B.

“We appreciate the services of the Officers to their country while in active service and wish them good luck in their retirement.” Brig Gen Kulayigye said

Col. Deo Akiki, the Defence Deputy Spokesperson said the 11 approved generals will starting from tomorrow Tuesday 4th July, 2023 to August 31st, start undergoing the retirement documentation and verification process at the army head offices in Mbuya and thereafter the retirement ceremony on August 31at Land Forces headquarters in Bimbo Luwero and at the State House for both 99 army officers and the 11 Generals, respectively.
