The UPC president and member of parliament representing the people of Lira East Division in parliament, Hon. Jimmy Akena has warned that anyone who dares to rig the election in Oyam North will be dealt with.
According to him, there are attempts by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to rig the election and have their candidate Samuel Okello Engola declared a winner.
“They are already planning to rig the elections but be ready to protect your votes; nobody serves you freedom a la carte. It is going to be rig and roast.” Akena noted.
He warned that if anyone messes up with Oyam North County by-election votes as it has been the case in other areas where by-elections have been conducted, they will see their reactions.
“I will follow you Bumper to Bumper if you attempt to rig the UPC votes,” UPC President Hon. Jimmy Akena warned on the final campaigns for the Party flag bearer Dr. Apio Eunice Otuko.
The by-election in Oyam North County is scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 6th July, 2023 starting from 7am, according to the Electoral Commission.
However, there have been reports from different opposition groups alleging that the government is planning to use the military to intimidate voters, participate in the voting exercise and rig the election.
While addressing journalists at the UPC headquarters on Wednesday, the party spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach asked party members in Oyam to turn up in large numbers and vote for their candidate asking them to remain vigilant and protect their vote from the time of casting to the counting until they are declared winners.
