The UPDF 5 Infantry Division Commander, Brig in Gen Keith Katungi has asked newly deployed LDUs to prioritize to protecting Ugandans and their property.
“The primary role of soldiers is to serve the people of Uganda by protecting them and their property as part of our constitutional mandate,” he said
Katungi was speaking to the officers at Labwodong Training School in Agago district on 5 July 2023.
He reminded the officers of the oath of allegiance taken while being passed out at Kaweweta Training School noting that if properly adhered to they will prosper in their military career.
Brig Gen Katungi noted that Uganda is largely peaceful a part from isolated incidents from the ADF and cattle rustling in Karamoja sub region.
First forward, Katungi implored the officers to grow the spirit of Pan Africanism one way of building peace across the African continent.
The new officers will according to the 5th infantry division commander undergo another two months orientation training meant to reorganize and prepare them into this formation, ready to be deployed to do army work.
These have also been cautioned against living promiscuous lives by protecting themselves against HIV/AIDS to maintain and improve their healthy and physical fitness in order to ably execute their duties of defending the country.
