The joint security forces in Kotido have arrested the killer who shot dead the Local Council 3 Chairperson and a UPDF soldier in July.
The suspect Modo John Apakori, a resident of Losilang village, North division in Kotido municipality was arrested on Saturday (August 26) from his hideout in Kacheri following a tip off from residents.
It should be recalled that on July 2, the suspect armed with a gun attacked and killed Hon. Moses Lomuria, Chairperson of Local Council III of Longaroe sub county and Lt. Issa Mayende, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) while they held a brief meeting at Longaroe Trading Center in Kotido district.
After the criminal act, he Apakori ran to Kacheri hideouts until his arrest was made on Saturday.
Maj Isaac Oware, PRO 3 Division said security recovered SMG number UPDF CP 3036 with 6 live rounds of ammunition which the warriors’ network previously stole from a slain UPDF soldier.
Oware added that the suspect is under UPDF custody at 405 Infantry Brigade Headquarters, Nakaperimoru Sub county in Kotido district pending thorough investigation and interrogations.
“Once steady investigations are complete he will be arraigned in courts of law to answer charges of murder and illegal possession of firearm among other counts,” Oware explained
He commended residents of Kacheri Trading Center and forces that operate in Kotido district for their vigilance and timely response that led to the arrest of hardcore criminal.
“This is a sign and testimony of popular support, good will and peace loving,” he said
