The government has officially dropped charges against former IGP (Inspector General of Police) Gen. Kale Kayihura.
The charges against him were related to failure to protect war materials as well as aiding and abetting the kidnapping of Rwandese refugees.
These charges were filed in 2018 a year after he had stepped down as police chief. Kayihura however denied all the three counts.
He is now a free man having also retired from active service in the army.
It should however be noted that several individuals have registered to cases against Gen. Kayihura in the International Criminal Court (ICC) accusing him of perpetrating crimes of torture against humanity.
Speaking to journalists at General Court Martial today, shortly after the charges were dropped, the former IGP hailed president Museveni and the updf being supportive and forgiving in his cases.
Asked about his retirement from the forces, Kayihura referred journalists to the defense spokesperson who he said will give further detail statement regarding the dropped charges and retirement
