AMDA reaches out health services to 9,125 patients

AMDA and its partners organized a medical camp at St John Fisher Ibanda secondary school that drew thousands of Ugandans seeking medical treatment.

The chaplain of the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA) Father Dr Darius Magunda expressed concern over poor health services in the country, attributing it to corruption from leaders. He urged the government to control corruption and inject more resources into the health sector.

The medical team from AMDA assessed the medical conditions prevailing in the area in March and had to come back to offer treatment. Some of the medical services offered are; dental, cancer screening, opthalmology(eye clinic), TB screening, HIV screening, orthopedics, nutrition assessment, Ultrasound scanning, safe male circumcision, paediatric health services, ProBono/ legal services, Psychiatry, counseling, spiritual guidance and many others all at zero cost.

The head of the AMDA health team, Dr Criscent Tumuhaise, applauded the community’s trust in faith-based services and suggested that every level facility should receive a health camp annually.

He also thanked all partners that have seen this activity happen, these partners include; National medical stores, Mbarara regional referral hospital,URA,CIPRA,BOU,U SAID, Holy innocents children’s hospital, Vision group, Uganda Catholic TV(UCTV),NDA,NWSC,Nkozi Hospital, UCI, Uganda Prisons, Uganda police, Rotary among others.

Speaking at the same function, AMDA chairperson for leadership council, Sheema woman MP Rosemary Nyakikongoro called for a total evaluation of the health system to address the available health challenges in the country.

The Mbarara archdiocese head of laity, Gervas Ndyanabo who is also the deputy CEO Vision group applauded AMDA’s commitment to the mission of Christ in serving the people of Mbarara archdiocese through the medical camp and other services.

The event showed that with the right interventions, the government can provide quality healthcare to the people of Uganda.
