In a shocking incident, Akankunda Scovia, also known as Nalongo, a 35-year-old Munyankore woman working at Ibanda Central Market, reportedly took her own life by poisoning. The tragedy unfolded in Ibanda Municipality, Ibanda district, prompting an investigation by the local police.

According to the authorities, the deceased was a member of Depth Ministries Church, led by Pastor Bukenya Daniel. The victim had allegedly entrusted her savings, amounting to 16,000,000/= (sixteen million shillings), to Pastor Bukenya. Disturbingly, when she requested her savings, the pastor claimed she had only saved 800,000/= (eight hundred thousand shillings).

Frustrated by the apparent betrayal, Akankunda Scovia took the matter to the police, filing a report at CPS Ibanda on 06/11/2023. However, when the pastor was contacted, he failed to respond to calls. The police advised the victim to pursue legal action in civil courts, as the dispute was deemed civil in nature.

Undeterred, the deceased returned to confront Pastor Bukenya the following day, only to find that her predicament remained unchanged. Tragically, she took poison right in front of the pastor within the church premises.

Swiftly rushed to the nearest clinic, Akankunda Scovia was pronounced dead upon arrival. In an attempt to uncover the circumstances leading to her untimely demise, the police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.

The body of the deceased has been transported to Ruhoko Health Center 4 mortuary for postmortem examination.

This distressing incident underscores the importance of addressing financial disputes through legal means and highlights the profound impact of such disputes on individuals’ lives. The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy as investigations into the matter continue.
