Busoga Kingdom’s premier, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, has vehemently refuted recent claims suggesting that the Kyabazinga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, is married to a woman named Anna Alison in the United Kingdom. The allegations have raised a storm of controversy just days before the Kyabazinga’s upcoming wedding to Jovia Mutesi on November 18.

On Thursday, lawyers representing Anna Alison sent a letter to Dr. Stephen Kazimba, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, asserting that their client had a legal marriage to the Kyabazinga and that they had children together. The lawyers, Mugerwa and Partners Advocates and Solicitors, further contended that any additional marriage by the Kyabazinga would constitute bigamy, a criminal offense in Uganda.

Addressing journalists at the Busoga Kingdom headquarters on Saturday, Premier Muvawala strongly denied these allegations and expressed his belief that they were motivated by ill-intentions to discredit the King and the Busoga Kingdom.

Muvawala emphasized that the purported marriage presented by Anna Alison’s lawyers lacked essential documentation. He stated, “His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV has never been married to anyone under the known forms of marriage in Uganda or elsewhere. He has never sired any children and is not a British citizen. And the purported Alison Ann Gabula is unknown to him. There is no record of any marriage of his majesty in the United Kingdom or anywhere else in the world, and the content of the said letter is subject to police investigations.”

To address the situation, Muvawala announced that the Busoga Kingdom had formally reported the matter to the police, who have initiated investigations into the allegations. He also disclosed that several individuals, whom he declined to name, have been taken into custody in connection with this matter. Additionally, the kingdom has engaged legal counsel to initiate both civil and criminal proceedings against those involved in what he labeled as a scheme to tarnish the Kyabazinga’s reputation.

“As the kingdom, I have formally reported these malicious and defamatory occurrences to the police and other security agencies, who have since commenced investigations into this criminal and illicit activity intended to create public panic and anxiety among the Basoga and the general public. The investigations have since led to the arrest of some culprits who are offering useful guidance on the motive and the person behind this social media blackmail activity. And the general public will be notified of the subsequent actions and prosecutions,” said Muvawala.

In a show of support for the Busoga Kingdom, Muvawala received a generous contribution of Shs 51 million from Kaliro High School. Furthermore, Century Bottling Company donated 150 crates of soda, 100 cartons of plastic soda, and 100 cartons of water to express their solidarity with the kingdom during this challenging time.

As the investigations proceed, the Busoga Kingdom remains steadfast in defending the integrity of the Kyabazinga and upholding its commitment to the well-being of its subjects. The looming wedding of the Kyabazinga continues to be a momentous occasion for the Busoga Kingdom, and these allegations have not deterred the kingdom from celebrating this significant event.
