Kabale,

In a tragic incident that occurred on the 6th of January at around 09:00hrs, a German tourist lost his life and two others were injured in a fatal road accident in Kabaraga village, Kyanamira sub-county along the Kabale-Mbarara highway.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Wendsche Ralf Steffen, a 58-year-old German tourist. The injured victims include Silk Venus, a 48-year-old German tourist, and Nyombi Morgan, a 60-year-old driver from Kampala.

According to reports, the accident involved a tourist vehicle, a green Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UAX 567C, which was traveling from Bwindi Gorilla Valley to Kampala. As the vehicle reached Kabaraga corner, it was struck by a speeding Fuso truck bearing registration number UBH009B. The truck, coming from the Mbarara side, overtook another vehicle before colliding with the tourist vehicle, resulting in the tragic incident.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with ACP Saiga Ibrahim, the Regional Police Commander of Kigezi, leading the investigation. The scene was thoroughly documented by RTO Sp Betubiza Fabian and ASP Mucunguzi DTO Kabale.

The injured victims were immediately rushed to Kabale Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention, while Dr. Wendsche Ralf Steffen’s body was taken to the same hospital’s mortuary for postmortem examination.

The tourist vehicle involved in the accident was later toed to Kabale police station while awaiting further investigation by the Interpol Office of Vehicles. The specific details of the other vehicle involved in the accident are yet to be determined.
