In a formal handover ceremony at the Second Infantry Division Headquarters in Makenke, Mbarara City, Brig Gen Stephen Mugerwa assumed the role of Deputy Division Commander, succeeding Col Wilberforce Serunkuma. Brig Gen Paul Muhanguzi, the 2 Infantry Division Commander, presided over the event, emphasizing the importance of continuous training, border vigilance, and interagency cooperation.
Brig Gen Muhanguzi highlighted the evolving nature of warfare, stressing the need for troops to adapt and maintain combat readiness through constant training in peacetime. This ensures preparedness and safeguards the country’s borders from potential threats.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, including Col Armstrong Duga, Division Operations and Training Officer, Brigade Commanders, Battalion Commanders, and Heads of Departments. Maj Kiconco Tabaro, UPDF 2nd Division Public Information Officer, witnessed the event, marking a significant milestone in the division’s leadership.
Brig Gen Stephen Mugerwa’s appointment brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, poised to enhance the unit’s operational effectiveness. His leadership is expected to foster a culture of excellence, driving the division forward in its mission to protect and serve the nation.
