Ugandan opposition political parties have been charged to build institutions rather than political parties that revolve around individuals.

CIU scholarships offer to Senior Six students.

John Kikonyogo, spokesperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said during a media briefing on Monday that building strong institutions is crucial for creating sustainable development, effective governance and prioritizes the common good over individual interest , leading to a more resilient and prosperous society.

Kikonyogo was referring to a recent massive mobilization rally which the FDC addressed at Mbale Cricket Oval on Saturday 29th June, 2024.

“We built an institution, not a party centered around an individual. And that’s what we’re advising our colleagues in other parties to do – to build parties that are institutions, not parties that follow a single person. You never know when that individual might leave you stranded, and you’ll be left to fend for yourself,” said Kikonyogo.

According to Kikonyogo, the large number of people attending their ongoing countrywide mobilization drives reflects the party’s strength. He believes that the recent internal conflicts have not had a significant impact on the party, as evidenced by the strong turnout at their events.

Public rallies are scheduled in Gulu City (July 6th), Arua City (July 13th), and Kasese Municipality (July 20th).

Kikonyogo announced that a management meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday (July 3) to review the progress of their countrywide mobilization drives, evaluate the effectiveness of their strategies, identify areas for improvement, and discuss ways to enhance their mobilization efforts.
