A 3-year-old was killed when a local teacher riding a motorcycle crashed into him in Kisoro district, police say.
The incident happened on the evening of July 3 in Kisharu village, Rutaka parish, Kirundo Sub county along Kisoro- Kirundo road.
According to police, the suspect was riding a motorcycle registration number UEP475M going to Rutaka HCIII when he collided into an infant who was crossing the road together with his grandmother and two other children.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate identified the victim as Benjamin Arinda, a resident of the same address while the suspect was identified as Isaac Irakiza, 33, a teacher at Nyanamo primary school and resident of Igari village, Rutaka parish Kirundo Sub county Kisoro district.
“The victim sustained serious injuries and died on the way to Rutaka health centre 3”, said ASP Elly Maate.
Traffic team led by the Kisoro District Traffic Officer, Asp Micheal Kushaba visited and documented the scene.
The suspect was arrested and the motorcycle was impounded to Kisoro CPS pending IOV inspection. Police inquiries are on going under ref KISORO TAR 51/2024.
